For those who do not know this show is based on a manga series written and illustrated by Negi Haruba, is a Shounen romance anime not a sibling comedy. But the show does revolve around the ever-changing relationship between Futaro Uesugi and each of the identical Nakano quintuplets: Ichika, Nino, Miku, Yotsuba, and Itsuki. Now that we’ve had to wait A WHOLE YEAR, is the Quintessential Quintuplets Season 3 coming out? Let’s find out!

The Quintessential Quintuplets Season 3: Why Isn’t It Out Yet?

“The Quintessential Quintuplets” manga series ended its serialization in 2020, but even as of April 2022, the show has not been renewed for season 3.

Will It Return For Sure?

Even before fans could finish the last episode, the fast production team announced their plans for the third season. The official website released a teaser and image for season 3 of The Quintessential Quintuplets, making fans feel secure about the next path. The image is also a great clue of what this new season will be because all the girls were actually in wedding dresses. So, season 3 of The Quintessential Quintuplets will focus on the story of the manga’s final marriage arc, we hoped.

The Quintessential Quintuplets Season 3: Plot & What To Expect?

At the beginning of ‘ The Quintessential Quintuplets ‘ or ‘Go-Tōbun no Hanayome’ show, high school student Futaro Uesugi is hired to tutor them and quickly realizes that his new students are not interested in studying and usually get poor grades. However, through perseverance and hard work, Futaro changes all of that. And the girls, in turn, also change. Over the course of the series, all five sisters fall in love with him. It is revealed in flash-forward scenes that Futaro is going to marry one of them. After that reveal, the anime becomes a near-mystery exploring who that eventual bride might be.

In the season 2 finale, Sister War reaches its peak amidst many heartbreaks and revelations. Ichika claims that she is the girl Futaro met in Kyoto when they were both young, but Futaro admits that he can’t trust her anymore. Miku has become inconsolable ever since it was revealed that Ichika, disguised as Miku, told Futaro that she (Ichika) liked him. The other four sisters make sure that Miku spends time with Futaro at the Uzumasa Studio Park.

Yotsuba is revealed to be the real mysterious girl from Kyoto. However, since the sisters looked identical back then, Futaro also met Ichika and guessed that she was the same girl. The sisters reconcile. Ichika and Futaro say sorry for their behavior. She then kisses him on the cheek, indicating that she is not backing down. It is also revealed that Maeda was the one following the girls and taking pictures on Futaro’s behalf.

The sisters told Futaro that they had no recent photos together, and he wanted to rectify that. It is strongly implied that the girl who kissed Futaro during his visit to Toraiwa Hot Springs is the one he will marry. The final scenes of season 2 show that she was Itsuki, but since the rest of the girls were pretending to be Itsuki at the time for her grandfather’s sake, she can be any of them.

So in Season 3, the plot is mainly a re-imagining of what each girl would look like as Futaro’s girlfriend. We have Itsuki, Ichika, Nino, Miku, and Yotsuba all dressed in beautiful wedding dresses. Although we still don’t know who Futaro will marry, judging by the Season 3 announcement, it’s going to be a fun time anyway.

Season 3 could also adapt the content from volume 11 onwards from the source material. The rivalry between the sisters for Futaro’s attention could intensify while maintaining a strong bond between them. More information about the mystery girl from Kyoto could be revealed to Futaro. The sisters could go back to their old apartment. They and Futaro could attend the school festival.

Why Isn’t the Quintessential Quintuplets Season 3 Out Yet?

The producers announced that a sequel (Quintessential Quintuplets Season 3) had been approved on the same day that the season 2 finale aired.

Although its format or medium has not been revealed yet, considering the popularity of anime, it is likely to be in a television anime format. Season 2 was originally supposed to release in October 2020, but due to the COVID situation, it was pushed back to January 2021.

As Japan is experiencing a spike in cases due to the third wave of the pandemic, anime production is struggling like any other industry. Despite this, the outbreak likely won’t delay the release of Season 3 much. After all, studios have now adjusted to the post-pandemic world. Also, Bibury, established in 2017, is a relatively new animation studio, and ‘The Quintessential Quintuplets’ Season 2 is their most high-profile production to date.

What Can I Watch While I Wait?

The adaptation of the successful Quintessential Quintuplets anime series to the big screen was announced in mid-2021. The movie rendition announcement had been made indirectly at the end of the second season (at that time it did not leave anything clear about what it was going to be, some rumors pointed to a possible third season), it is then that the animation studio that will produce the film, TBS Animation, replacing Bibury Animation Studios (the studio that animated the second season), would reveal the news through its social networks on October 26, 2021. What is currently known about the film is that it will be a sequel to what happened at the end of the second season, we also know that it will be called ” Eiga Gotōbun no Hanayome.” and will be released in the summer of 2022.
